No Doubt is set to embark on the reunion tour May 2 at Atlantic City, New Jersey’s Borgata, but lead singer Gwen Stefani isn’t the only one in her marriage dusting off her tour bus, as her husband Gavin Rossdale is making a comeback, as well. Rossdale released his first solo album, WANDERLUST, in June 2008 and one single off the record, “Love Remains the Same,” did quite well on the charts, peaking at number six on Hot Adult Contemporary, proving that he knows how to rock, without or without longtime band Bush.
The album landed at number 33 on the Billboard 200 chart and Rossdale recently told Billboard.com that he is currently penning new material, although it remains to be determined whether it will be a Bush album or sophomore solo effort. “If it’s a Bush record, that’s great, and if it’s a Gavin Rossdale record, that’s great. We’ll have to see what happens,” said Rossdale.
The album would be the first Bush album since 2001’s Garden State, but it’s all up to Bush guitarist Nigel Pulsford, who backed out of a shelved Bush album in 2005 to spend more time with his family. (At that point Rossdale launched another group, Institute.) Rossdale is currently touring in North America and wraps things up June 7, after which point he hopes to perform in Europe.
Rossdale did tell Billboard online that he and wife Gwen Stefani still have to iron out parenting duties (the busy couple has two children together) and appeared excited for the upcoming No Doubt reunion tour saying, “I think they’ll have a great time. Those guys have been super-patient while (Stefani)’s been doing her solo thing, so they’re just going to really enjoy it, I think. It takes a lot of pressure off, and gets them all inspired if they want to make another record.”
It was originally assumed that a No Doubt reunion meant a new No Doubt record (the would-be follow up to 2001’s Rock Steady), but the band plans on getting inspired on tour instead. After playing sure-to-be-sold-out shows across the States, No Doubt will finish up their tour with four nights at Irvine, California’s Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre from July 31st to August 4th. Paramore will open for No Doubt on tour and second supporting acts Bedouin Soundclash, the Sounds and Janelle Monae will also be in tow. The band will make an appearance on the small screen May 11 when they appear on hit CW show Gossip Girl.
Gwen and the guys (Tony Kanal, Adrian Young and Tom Dumont) all play fictional 1980s rock stars in a band called Snowed Out for a flashback episode of the guilty pleasure that is Gossip Girl in which Lily, Serena’s mother, checks out her very first rock concert. The band will perform “Stand & Deliver,” a cover of 1980s band Adam and the Ants during the episode, which is called “Valley Girls” and sets up a potential spinoff of the popular series starring Brittany Snow and Krysten Ritter.
